Hummingbird & Butterfly Garden Hanger Workshop

Location: Linda Brunsvold’s Home Studio
(address provided upon registration)
Date: Saturday, May 23, 2026
Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

All proceeds from the workshop will be donated to the NCG Scholarship fund!!!

Workshop Overview:

Join this hands-on workshop and learn to create a 6” x 5” double-sided hummingbird or butterfly garden hanger that can be fully glazed on both sides!

NCG member artist, Linda Brunsvold, will introduce how she uses a 3D printer to create cutters for double-sided 2D ceramic pieces.

Participants will use cutters and stamps to design their own double-sided hummingbird and/or butterfly piece. You’ll also be shown a unique firing process that allows these garden hangers to be fired without using stilts.

The glazing process will be explained as well, so you leave with a clear understanding of finishing techniques.

If time and materials permit, you may create up to two pieces during the workshop.

These garden hanger greenware pieces will be taken home for participants to fire in their own kilns, or Linda can fire your piece for an additional $5 (payable directly to her).

What is Provided:

Hand-building workspace and slab roller

An ample supply of hand-building tools, including the necessary cutters

Texture stamps and rolling pins for adding unique surface designs

Optional kiln firing of your double-sided pieces after the event for an additional $5 per piece

What to Bring:

2–3 pounds of mid-fire clay (Linda uses Speckled Buff Cone 5/6)

A box to take home your 6” x 5” hummingbird, plus plastic wrap to protect it

A folding chair for your comfort

Snacks and your preferred drinks (water will be provided)

Note: The workshop will be held in Linda’s garage home studio that will be cooled by a swamp cooler.  There is a refrigerator for beverages and snacks.  The Nevada Clay Guild will provide water bottles.

Participants are welcome to individually return at another day and time to glaze their piece and assemble their garden hanger. This will be coordinated directly with Linda and nominal fees will apply for use of glazes and purchasing of the rod, hanging hook, high fire wire and beads.
